petz4fun is a community for petloving kids (and others). It is a place where you can buy and care for virtual pets and meet new and
old friends. You can learn about animals and participate in competitions. If you take care of your pets they can get kids.
The kids inherit characteristics from their parents, so you can, for example, try to breed a specific kind of animal,
e.g. white rabbit, etc

Getting started
Begin by registering as a member. Make sure you choose a good password and that you verify your e-mail address.
Then you may go to the PetStore and buy a pet, some food and maybe a toy. Then you may start sending messages to other members.
When the pets get older you may allow them to mate with other pets and get children to take care of.
1 day in real life is approx. 10 days at petz4fun
Login problems
If you have made 3 failed login attempts the computer is automatically blocked for 1 hour.
If your password does not work you can fetch it through 'Forgot?' on the startpage.
The virtual pets
The pets
The 'purpose' of the site is to take care of our virtual pets. You buy, sell, feed, breed and compete with your virtual pets.
The pets get points if you take care of them. That means you should visit your pet, make sure it's got food and play/hug your pet sometimes.
The different animals have special properties. Read more about the different pets at their own heading (below).
You can only get (or loose) 1 point per day (2 for hamsters).
An exception is pets with negative score - they get 10 points a day until they reach zero again
The Company value increases every day you care for the pet (max 10) and decreases when you have not visited the pet for 3 days.
As long as Company is above zero your pet never loses points
All animals may have different colours and patterns that may be inherited by their kids.
Pets with 2 colours on their body count as '2-coloured' (not if they have a second colour only at the tip of their tail or on their paws).
When you buy a pet you may rename it one time!
If a pet gets below -30 points it is automatically sent to the PetStore (or to an auction)
The pets die when they get old.
Well-kept pets live a little longer.

Mating and kids
At a certain age a pet may breed. The first time(s) you may not chose the partner.
It may take one day or several weeks before mating is done. You never know...
Mating is done by allowing the pet to mate (a button in the pet's room).
The pet must have at least 10 points to mate.
If your pet has mated before and have a acore above 60 you may use the Mating room to select a partner.
After mating it takes a while before the kids are born.
After the kids are born it takes some days before their parents may mate again.

Can I keep the kids?
When you get kids you can choose which ones you want to keep (not for horses).
The first day you may only choose 1 kid. The owners of the mother and father can keep at least 1 kid each.
Day 2-3 you may keep 1 more and after 3 days both players can keep the rest of the kids (if there are any left).
The owner of the mother may choose to sell unkept kids to other members after 5 days.
After 2-3 months (10 days in the game) unkept kids are sold automatically to the PetStore.
Hereditary factors (genes)
Kids inherits looks from their parents.
The genes may be seen on your own pets. GM may also see the genes for pets in the Petstore, Auction House and in the Mating room.
Genetic factors:

Colors. Each pet carry genes for three colors

Type. Single color, stripes, spots etc

Race and size For dogs and horses(race)

Food preference. For rabbits

Number of spots/stripes. For pets that have spots/stripes the probability to have many spots/stripes are inherited.

Face Spots. Pets with this gene may get spots in their face.

Colored paws. Pets with this gene may get colored paws. (used to be set at random before)

Colored tail. Pets with this gene may get a colored (tip of) tail. (used to be set at random before)

Heart/Diamond shaped mark at back. Pets with this gene may get a heart-like (females) or a diamond-like (male) shape at their back.

Colored ear. Pets with this gene may get an ear with a different color.

Many kids. This is only for females. It affects the number of kids born in each batch. The stronger gene the higher posibility to get many kids.

Extra mating. This is only for males. If the gene is active the pet may mate one extra time. Note that the gene may be passed on (passive) without being active.

Long life. It affects the expected life span of the pet. The stronger gene the higher posibility to live longer.

Albino. If the gene is active the pet is an albino (red eyes and white fur). Note that the gene may be passed on (passive) without being active.
For Rabbits, Dogs and Horses (affects Pet competitons)

Speed. Affects the speed of the Pet.

Endurance. Affects the endurance of the pet at show jumping, especially at long courses/tracks.

Agility. Affects the ability to jump over obstacles and to control movement
Pet competitions
There are basically 3 types of Pet competitions: Voting, Expo (exhibition) and "Special competitions"
The "special competitions" are; Show Jumping for Rabbits, Racing and Agility for dogs and Jumping, Racing and Dressage for horses.
At a voting the members decide who will win by casting votes.
At an expo the score is set based on random AND how well you have tended the pet.
At Jumping/Race/Agility/Dressage the result is set by a combination of traing, heritage (genes) and part random. At Dog Racing a Dachshund has a bit less chance of winning (too short legs...)
If 2 pets get the same score the computer randomly decides the position.
You enter a Competiton by chosing an 'open' competition and then click on the animal that you want to enter.
The winner in a competiton gets 100 euro, 2nd gets 50 and 3rd place gets 25 (in the game).
At Expos and Special Competitions (Jumping/Race/Agility/Dressage) a pet may gain "merit points". The best 20% (1 of of 5) in each Competition gets a merit point.
The top 20 always gets a merit point (regardless of the number of participants).
When a pet have 5 merit points (in the type of competition) the pet may enter an Elite Competiton.
Those are only open for pets with "Elite Certificate" (5 merit points or more).
If a Pet gets 3 (or more) top 3 positions in Elite Competitions (of the same type), and at least one of those is a victory, the pet is officially a Champion!
Auctions
Our Gold Members (GM) may sell an animal in the Auction House. All members may sell horses in an aution (horses can not be sold to members/petstore).
The member that sells the animal chooses the length of the auction (1 hour, 1 day and 1 week) and a minimum price.
Once an auction is started the pet will be sold to the member that places the highest bid for the pet.
All members may buy pets in the Auction House. When a member places the highest bid for a pet the money is taken from the account (at once).
If another member later puts in a higher bid the money is returned.
When a GM pet is forced to the Petstore (when it is not treated well) it will also be sold to the highest bidder in an auction.
Horses are always sold in an auction, they may not be purchased any other way.
Rabbits may breed at around 6-7 months, hamsters at approx. 5 months and horses at 2 years.
The first 2 times you cannot choose the partner.
It may mate 4 times total (3 for hamsters and 2 for horses).
If the pet has 60 points and has mated 2 times before you may enter it in the Mating room and choose the partner.
After mating it takes approx. 2 months before the kids are born, for cats/dogs.
Rabbits are born after 5 weeks, hamsters after 2 weeks and horses after 11 months.
After the kids are born it takes 20 days (in the game), i.e. the kids are older than 6 1/2 months, before their parents may mate again.
Cats
Cats have their tail upwards if they are happy. That is, if it has a score above zero, you have visited it and it has got food.
Mating 4 times starting at the age of 10 months.
Pregnancy Approx. 2 months, 1 week
After birth After the kids are born it takes approx 20 days (in 'real' time), i.e. the kids are older than 6 1/2 months, before their parents may mate again
Life expectancy Approx. 16 years
Dogs
Dogs
Dogs have different species that may be crossbred. Dogs may compete in dogracing and agility.
There are 4 races that may be mixed: Newfoundland, Spitz, Poodle and Dachshund.
Dachshunds are poor runners and have a disadvantage in Dog Racing.

Rabbits

Rabbits eat different kinds of food and have different types of ears and tails. Rabbits may compete in show jumping

Hamsters
Hamsters
Hamsters have 2 types of toys (that will not break). A hamster may get 2 points a day. Hamsters mate 3 times
Hamstes may get 2 points each day and may play with two different toys

After birth After the kids are born it takes approx 6-7 months, before their parents may mate again

Horses
Horses
Horses have 3 different races
- Arabian. Have generally better genes for speed
- Ardennes. The best race for endurance
- Welsh. Their strongest area are agility
They may ONLY be bought in auctions. To keep a horse you pay a stable-fee (25 Euro) every week (food is included in fee).
You need to groom a horse 2 times a day (with at least 1 hour in-between) to increase the score. If you fail to do so a fee of Euro 5 is taken each day from the stable.
A Superfriend may help you to groom your horses. A member may only own 3 horses at once.
At the age of 11 months they may start competing
Mating 2 times starting at the age of 2 years
Pregnancy Approx. 11 months, 2 weeks
After birth After the kids are born it takes approx 11 months before their parents may mate again
Life expectancy Approx. 25 years
Kids stay with their mother the first 11 months then the owners of the parents may enter one secret bid for the foal.
The player with the highest bid buys the foal from the other member. If there is no bid the foal is sold in an auction.
The community
Private room
At the 'Personal profile' page (found in your 'Home') you can add information about yourself. You may choose to add a picture of yourself, your favourite pet or something else.
All pictures are pre-viewed by us before they can be seen by others. You may only use pictures NOT protected by copyright.
You may add HTML-tags in your room to make it look nice, for example to get a background or music. NB! this is up to you. We do not assist in this.
You may always try to get help from other members.
If you add a member as a SuperFriend, this member may change your information.
Messages
You can have an unlimited number of messages for a month. After 1 month they get deleted automatically.
Messages you want to keep longer than 1 month, you may choose to 'keep'. You may keep a total of 30 messages.
Messages you have sent may be seen (link at the bottom of the messages page) for 2 weeks, then they are automatically deleted
SuperFriend
A SuperFriend is someone you have chosen to trust. This member may change info on your personal profile.
He/she may also feed your pets.
He/she may NOT buy/sell pets and cannot see your password.
You make someone your SuperFriend by clicking 'Super' on someone in your list of Friends (He/she must be your friend first).
Forum
The forum is an important place. This is where you may ask about how things at petz4fun work.
This is also an excellent place to get to know some new friends...
Guestbook
If you want you can have a guestbook. Messages written here may be seen by everybody.
Messages in the guestbook are saved for 3 weeks.
Diary
You may write a Diary at petz4fun. For each day you may write 1 'page'. For every page you can decide if it will be seen by everybody
or only by those you have selected as Friends (or SuperFriends).
If you are a GM you may also save a picture each day.
Messages in the Diary are saved for 1 year
RealPets
What is RealPets?
RealPets is a function where you may enter information about your REAL pets (IRL). It has nothing to do with the virtual pets in the game. If you have pets that you want to show to other members this is where you may do it. You can add a number of pets and for each pet a number of photos and comments.
The images you upload must be of your own pets and the images must NOT be copyright protected.
As a non-GM member you may add 4 pets with 3 images for each pet. As GM you may add 20 pets and 20 images per pet.
Member levels
Every member gets a member level between 0-5 depending on how active the member is and how long time the member has been on petz4fun.
The value '0' indicates a brand new member and the value '5' a very experienced one.
This level is sometimes used to decide what a member may do. As an example you must have at least level 4 to apply to become a CREW at petz4fun (to help us run the site)
Exactly HOW the level is calculated is our little secret... ;-)
Clubs
A Club is a special place for members that have a common interest. Members may start clubs about anything they like (as long as it follows our rules).
Every member have a clubsaldo that is the number of clubs that the member may start. The saldo is added by one when:
- A members gains a member level above 1. In other words; when a member reaches a new level and the new level is 2 or higher.
- When a GM period is paid.
A Club may be "open" or "private".
An OPEN club everybody may join and you may not stop members to join your club.
In a PRIVATE club members must apply to join the club.
If you want to build an active and big Club you should select an OPEN Club. If you want a private place for your friends chose a PRIVATE Club.
Note that you CANNOT change the type of the Club or the name once you have started it!
You can only delete a Club with no members. If there are members you may always resign as Club owner. Then another member may take over as owner of the Club.
A new expo is held once a week where the club members may enter one pet each in an expo where the pet represents the Club and it will give the Club a prize if the pet do well in the expo.
A member may join 10 Clubs at the most.
Other things
Money
It is free to use petz4fun. Money (in the game) can be gained in different ways.
When you signup you get 130 euro.
Every week you get 20 euro in allowance (on Sunday morning) if you have visited your pets during the week.
If you take good care of them you get an extra 20 euro, and if you are GM you get 5 euro extra. You can also sell pets to get money.
They are worth the same value as their score. You may also win money in our expos.
An expo winner gets 100 euro, the runner up gets 50 euro and 3rd place gets 25 euro. In en Elite competition those amounts are doubled.
You need to make a budget to be sure you can afford food for your pets. You cannot buy too many at once!
Goldcoins / GoldMember
You may get some special functions on petz4fun if you buy Goldcoins.
20 Goldcoins costs USD 3 (approx. GPB 1,50 or 2,30 Euro) in REAL money. It is payed thru PayPal or (for some countries) by sending a premium SMS message.
The payment may be used to get the same benifits as before (GM for 2 months and 4 GM pets chosen), but the goldcoins may also be used for other things.

petz4fun is an english version of the popular Swedish site djur.nu.
It was outlined by 2 twin girls (10 years old at the time). Their father created the site and now helps run it through the company PeoplePath AB (prev. 121reach AB).
